Position: Senior Infrastructure & Security Engineer

Appian's Information Security department is seeking a Senior Infrastructure & Security Engineer , internally titled Senior IT Engineer. This hands-on role involves diverse responsibilities, including collaboration with infrastructure teams and managing business solutions for our network infrastructure. The ideal candidate has a proven track record with a variety of technologies to meet business goals.

This role is based at our headquarters in McLean, Virginia. Appian values in-person collaboration, and employees are expected to work in the office five days a week to foster our culture and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead LAN, WAN, network security, and systems projects across multiple technology platforms, including enterprise wired and wireless networks, VPNs, VOIP, etc.
2. Manage internal certificates, certificate authority, and RADIUS servers in a High Availability environment.
3. Design and implement global wireless infrastructure, and maintain tools to optimize wireless performance.
4. Manage and integrate RADIUS, IDPs, LDAP, and other AAA protocols and systems.
5. Utilize cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) and physical infrastructure to develop creative solutions.
6. Automate infrastructure deployment and management using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and CloudFormation, and automation tools like Ansible.
7. Respond to and resolve issues across enterprise systems, from physical to application layers.
8. Support audit activities and implement best practices based on frameworks like ITIL, ISO, SOC, PCI.
9. Recommend emerging technologies to keep our network modern, secure, and innovative.
10. Collaborate with technical teams on network and systems design, architecture, and administration.

Required Experience:

1. BSc in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
2. Deep understanding of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, etc.).
3. Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting wireless infrastructure.
4. Strong knowledge of RADIUS, IDPs, LDAP, and AAA protocols.
5. Understanding of security principles, including MFA, encryption, and vulnerability management.
6. Experience with scripting and automation tools like Python, Ansible, Terraform.
7. Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
8. Ability to approach problems creatively and proactively.
9. Forward-thinking with awareness of technological trends.

Nice to Have:

1. Skills in BGP routing protocol, with the ability to troubleshoot related issues.
2. 6+ years of experience with Fortinet/Ruckus technologies.
