Job Title: Patient Care Associate – Labor & Delivery

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Pay Rate: $25 to $27/hr

Schedule: 40 hours/week | 8-hour shifts | 5 days/week (including rotating weekends and holidays)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Care Associate (PCA) for the Labor & Delivery unit. Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse or medical professional, the PCA will provide essential support in both clinical and clerical capacities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care for patients. This role is ideal for a healthcare professional with at least two years of experience in a Labor & Delivery setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

• Measure and record vital signs, weights, and specimens; document in patient charts.
• Assist with specimen collection and conduct basic screenings (e.g., dipstick, hemoccult).
• Prepare and label specimens for laboratory pickup.
• Conduct basic vision and hearing tests; perform urinalysis.
• Administer basic first aid and emergency procedures, including BLS.
• Perform simple wound care (cleansing, dressing changes, irrigation).
• Assist in patient examinations by preparing the room and handling medical equipment.
• Escort patients to various departments as needed.

Clerical & Patient Support:

• Interview patients to collect personal and medical histories.
• Maintain and file patient charts, forms, and records.
• Answer patient inquiries and make appropriate referrals.
• Support patient education and promote safe, health-conscious living.
• Manage inventory and supplies for the unit.
• Schedule and rebook patient appointments through manual and automated systems.
• Record and input patient information into hospital systems.

Technical Skills:

• Draw blood specimens via venipuncture or fingerstick techniques.
• Operate electrocardiograph (EKG) equipment to capture heart tracings.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Labor & Delivery unit
• Proficiency in basic clinical tasks and comfort working in fast-paced, high-stress environments
• Strong teamwork and communication skills

Education & Certifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AHA BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
• Completion of:
  • A New York State Department of Health-approved Phlebotomy training program
  • A healthcare-based training program in electrocardiograph (EKG) procedures
