Job Overview:
Albertus Magnus College, Department of Nursing, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Nursing to deliver high-quality learning experiences and education for students in the LPN to BSN and BSN programs. The faculty member will engage in teaching, service, and scholarship activities and work collaboratively with colleagues across the college. Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact, and reputation of the college and its programs. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching in the classroom, clinical, and laboratory courses to undergraduate students in the Nursing Program. This is an in-person position.

Essential Functions:
Duties include teaching credits per year, service on college committees, attending faculty meetings, advising students, and active participation in program, departmental,l and college events:

  • Deliver didactic, laboratory, clinical, and/or experiential instruction in the LPN to BSN and BSN programs per departmental needs.
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of Albertus Magnus College, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria.
  • Utilize high impact learning strategies to aid students in mastering material.
  • Work with program leadership in collaborating with healthcare facilities to arrange clinical experiences for students. Ensure experiences meet clinical learning objectives and regulatory requirements as per program policies.
  • Assist program director in the day-to-day operations of the LPN to BSN program, including advising LPN to BSN students once they are officially admitted in the program, assist in identifying and onboarding adjunct faculty as needed, develop the schedule and secure clinical placements for students.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty and the coordinator of The Germain Center for Academic Success to address the needs of LPN to BSN students, including tutoring, and counseling for academic success.
  • Participate in service activities, including attending and participating in departmental meetings, serving on committees at the institutional, regional, state, or national level and volunteer events, representing the program and college in/at community functions, attending College events such as convocation, commencement, and other ceremonies, and supporting student activities such as health fairs and service projects.
  • Use the college's learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, up to date gradebook and other relevant course materials and to communicate with students.
  • Meet students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by phone or email, and through other college-approved mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty in the ongoing assessment of courses and the development of new curriculum.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge in discipline and areas of expertise.
  • Build and maintain relationships with professional organizations involved with the healthcare sector.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the program director.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess an unencumbered license as a registered nurse, eligible to practice in the state of Connecticut, and teaching experience in nursing is required. A minimum of a master's degree in nursing is required, and a terminal degree in nursing or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience utilizing standardized testing to determine outcome measures, including knowledge of the NCSBN NCLEX test plan.

The candidate must have at least two years of full-time equivalent practice as a registered nurse in a clinical setting. Two years of verified, successful teaching experience in nursing are preferred, with a preference for candidates who have taught in a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program.

Language Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a group member in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sufficient strength and mobility to work effectively with patients/students and to carry out related nursing care responsibilities, including lab activities. Examples: lifting and positioning (up to 50 pounds); carrying (up to 25 pounds); walking; preparation and administration of medications (oral, injection, intravenous, including hanging IV bags at shoulder height); bending and stooping.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time using a keyboard and to ambulate between classes and buildings on campus.
  • Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours
  • Normal range of vision and hearing (with or without correction)

Benefits:

Full-time employees are eligible to receive medical, dental, and vision benefits. Full-time employees can earn between 18-23 paid time off a year. The employer covers tuition remission after 90 days of employment and covers 100 % (employees responsible for books and technology fees). The college is committed to work-life balance and has a summer schedule from June through August. We currently have 14 paid holidays, including a winter break. You will have the opportunity to participate in our retirement plan from day one, and after one year of employment, the college contributes depending on your service years.
