Job Description

OP is currently seeking a Finance Associate for a leading social media company. This role will be part of a team that requires a deep understanding of financial metrics and the ability to put together a detailed understanding of peers' investment in this space by looking at public filings, analyst reports, and own financial analysis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Financial SoT (Source of Truth) for peers and the economy.
  • Source financial data on selected companies, based on both direct (e.g. company earnings, regulatory filings) and indirect sources (e.g. analyst research, financial datasets).
  • Source financial data on select segments and industries.
  • Source financial data on the macroeconomy, both in the US and in select macro-regions.
  • Build and maintain proprietary financial models for select industry peers, based on publicly available information, assumptions, and other available data.
  • Creating and continuously updating a repository of Metrics to assess strategic implications.
  • Build metrics and KPIs of financial performance for select companies, segments, industries, and geographic regions.
  • Help size product opportunities, industry segments, and likely performance of products or services.
  • Examine sales and other financial performance data to gain insights into product performance, user preferences, and market trends, to identify growth opportunities.
  • Design, build, and circulate regular updates on the financial performance of select peers, with increasingly greater focus on anticipating financial performance and inferring strategic opportunities.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience as an Equity Research Analyst in investment banking or a financial analysis firm.
  • Must have a solid background in equity research.

  • Deep understanding of financial modeling, accounting, and data analytics.
  • Familiarity with key datasets and vendors for financial analysis (e.g. CapIQ; AlphaSense; Bloomberg).
  • High degree of analytical rigor and ability to work with complex, ambiguous, and unstructured data (i.e., triangulating between different data sources, spotting outliers/ inconsistencies, formulating hypotheses explaining the data, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and basic SQL.
  • Ability to structure and build summaries/ storylines when given guidance from more senior team members.
  • Comfortable working in large, cross-functional organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • Experience with market data and data on competitors.
  • Completed MBA degree (or equivalent business background).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in OP monthly team meetings and participate in team-building efforts.
  • Contribute to OP technical discussions, peer reviews, etc.
  • Contribute content and collaborate via the OP-Wiki/Knowledge Base.
  • Provide status reports to OP Account Management as requested.
