Job Title: Customs & Logistics Specialist

Job Overview
We are looking for a Customs & Logistics Specialist to manage and optimize import/export processes while ensuring compliance with customs regulations. This role involves handling customs declarations, verifying Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes , managing customs duty payments , and coordinating logistics to ensure efficient supply chain operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to minimize costs and enhance operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customs Clearance & Compliance
    • Prepare and review import/export documentation to ensure smooth and timely customs clearance.
    • Verify HTS codes for accurate duty calculation and regulatory compliance.
    • Stay updated on customs laws, tariffs, and trade agreements (e.g., FTA, EPA) to optimize duty costs.
    • Ensure compliance with customs regulations, including proper record-keeping and audits.
  • Customs Duty & Payment Processing
    • Calculate and coordinate the payment of customs duties, tariffs, and other fees .
    • Identify potential duty exemptions, refunds, or preferential trade agreements to reduce costs.
  • Logistics & Freight Coordination
    • Work closely with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to coordinate shipments and resolve clearance issues .
    • Monitor and track shipments, ensuring on-time delivery and cost-effective transportation solutions.
    • Handle logistics exception management , including delays, damage claims, and customs inspections.
  • Process Optimization & Risk Management
    • Improve customs and logistics workflows to enhance efficiency and minimize risks.
    • Support internal stakeholders (supply chain, finance, and operations) in import/export compliance and cost control strategies.
    • Analyze logistics and customs-related data to generate reports and insights for management.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Technical Skills
    • Strong understanding of customs regulations, HTS classification, import/export documentation, and duty calculations .
    • Knowledge of incoterms, trade compliance, and international shipping regulations .
    • Experience with ERP systems, logistics software, and customs declaration platforms (e.g., EZWAY, Trade-Van, SAP, Oracle).
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
    • Ability to analyze customs data, tariffs, and logistics performance metrics .
    • Strong problem-solving skills to handle customs clearance issues and shipment delays.
    • Capability to identify cost-saving opportunities in customs duties and logistics operations.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese for handling international trade documents and discussions.
    • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (supply chain, finance, legal, and external vendors).
    • Experience negotiating with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies .
  • Organizational & Attention to Detail
    • Strong multitasking abilities to manage multiple shipments and customs processes simultaneously.
    • High attention to detail in customs documentation, classification, and compliance .
Qualifications
  • Education : Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field .
  • Experience : At least 3 years of experience in customs, international trade, or logistics, preferably in manufacturing, e-commerce, or technology industries .
  • Certifications (Preferred but not required):
    • Certified Customs Broker or AEO Certification .
    • Experience handling specialized shipments (e.g., hazardous materials, electronics, medical devices).
    • Knowledge of specific regional customs regulations (e.g., U.S. CBP, EU Customs, Japan NACCS ).
